ANC Achievements as a Ruling Party

10 Decades

For ten decades the ANC has led the struggle against racism and oppression, organizing mass resistance, mobilizing the international community, and taking up the armed struggle against apartheid.

Transition

South Africa since 1994 transitioned from the system of apartheid to one of majority rule. The election of 1994 resulted in a change in government with the African National Congress (ANC) coming to power. The ANC retained power after subsequent elections in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019

We are the ANC

The African National Congress (ANC) is a political party in South Africa. It originated as a liberation movement known for its opposition to apartheid and has governed the country since 1994, when the first post-apartheid election resulted in Nelson Mandela being elected as President of South Africa.

About The ANC

The ANC is a national liberation movement. It was formed in 1912 to unite the African people and spearhead the struggle for fundamental political change. For ten decades the ANC has led the struggle against racism and oppression, organizing mass resistance, mobilizing the international community, and taking up the armed struggle against the apartheid.

The ANC achieved a decisive democratic breakthrough in the 199 elections, where it was given a firm mandate to negotiate a new democratic constitution for South Africa. The new constitution was adopted in 1996. The ANC was re-elected in 1999 to national and provincial governments with an increased mandate. The policies of the ANC are determined by its membership and its leadership is accountable to the membership.

Membership of the ANC is open to all South Africans above the age of 18 years, irrespective of race, colour, and creed, who accept it's principles. policies, and programs.
